Professional Standards Matter More Than Ever in the Beauty Industry

This was a bit of a last-minute blog. I originally planned to write about something completely different, but after seeing what’s currently happening in the beauty industry on social media, I felt this conversation couldn’t wait.

Recently, a very well-known celebrity facialist in Beverly Hills shared something deeply unprofessional and every client’s and professional’s worst nightmare. A young girl’s skin was severely damaged, and instead of taking professional responsibility, accountability was avoided. Situations like these are heartbreaking and unfortunately becoming more common.

The truth is that our industry is over-saturated with unlicensed, inexperienced, and under-educated providers. In this country, esthetic school can be as short as six months. Botox certifications can be completed in just two days. IV drip courses last a week. Lasers, advanced devices often taught without proper foundation or supervision. Even worse, people are working in spas, clinics, and medical offices with the wrong license or no license at all.

I want to be very clear: I would never hire anyone without proper licensing.

At Ildi Pekar Skin, every team member goes through intense training for every service we offer; this can last months. Before anyone ever touches a client, they must pass internal testing. I personally evaluate their work, results, technique, and safety. If I’m not completely comfortable, we go back to training again and again until it meets our standard. There are no shortcuts here.

The same philosophy applies to our treatments and machines. Every single technology we offer is something I have personally tried, tested, and believed in. I don’t follow trends; they're called trends for a reason. Instead, I work only with companies that have been established for years, are science-driven, and operate with integrity and professionalism.

So, before you book your next facial or treatment, please do your research. Ask questions. Check licenses. Look at education and experience, not just social media followers.
